Miller: “My leg didn’t cause me any problems”

A race long battle in Qatar offers Jack Miller insight into the state of his injured leg and his rivals.

When he arrived at the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar, Jack Miller (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) was unsure of how his still healing leg would hinder his performance, as he was still yet to do a race run. Not only was he unsure about his injury, but having never done a race run meant Miller was still in the dark about how the Michelin tyres and Magneti Marelli electronics would change his Honda over race distance. With this in mind, Miller had set his goal as simply scoring points in this first race. The Australian spent the majority of the race battling with Eugene Laverty (Aspar Team MotoGP) and Alvaro Bautista (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), the trio producing one of the most thrilling battles of the race as a whole.

Miller would be bested by the duo and end the race in 14th, gaining valuable experience and pleased to have had his leg stand up to the torture of a 22-lap MotoGP™ race. With the issue of his leg more or less resolved, Miller and crew can now focus on improving his Honda RC213V and closing the gap to the front riders. Finishing almost 13 seconds ahead of his teammate, Tito Rabat, also provided ‘Jackass’ with a boost of confidence before the second round of the year in Argentina.

Jack Miller: “I finished the race and learnt a lot, so that’s the main positive to take away from tonight. It is the first time I’ve done full race distance since my pre-season injury and my leg didn’t cause me any problems and I am really happy with my physical condition. I was having a good battle with Laverty and Bautista but I made a small mistake on the last lap that let them back through, so that was a shame. It was good experience and now we can look forward to Argentina where I had a strong result a year ago.”
