Baz: “I tried to change my lines”

Baz: “I tried to change my lines”

A lack of grip ends in disaster for Loris Baz as he crashes out of the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar.

The Qatar GP weekend never really went to plan for Loris Baz, the French rider unable to match his pace from testing throughout the weekend. Starting from 16th on the grid he made good progress in the opening laps and was up in 12th by the lap eight. Unfortunately Baz’s run would stop here as he lost the front at Turn 2. Until this point he had been struggling with grip on both corner entry and corner exit, attempting to change his lines to compensate.

Even with the disappointment of failing to score, Baz is optimistic for the rest of the season and knows he and his team can turn the situation around. Although still unaware as to the cause of the crash and the lack of grip, Baz and his Avintia Racing team will have a week before the next round in Argentina to assess the data.

Loris Baz: “I was doing quite well and slowly I was picking up the pace. I was running with Aleix quite comfortably but I lacked grip with the bike on corner entry and exit. I tried to change my lines to get the most from the bike but in Turn 2 I lost the front wheel and went down. I do not understand why, but clearly there was where I found the limit. It has been worse than we expected, but there are positives and Hector showed well. We must continue forward with the same line of work that we’ve had so far and now we go to Argentina, a circuit I like a lot and where we can do much better. There are still 17 more races and although it is not the best start to the season we stay positive. I’m not one to usually crash in the race and I feel bad for the team because they worked very hard.”
