Baz: “Someone came from the inside and hit me”

Yet another difficult race for Loris Baz as he gets taken out on the second lap, picking his bike up to take his first race finish.

Loris Baz headed to Austin with the hopes of a race finish after a rough start to the year. His race commenced with a great launch, the French rider defending his position in the points on the opening lap. Unfortunately he would encounter yet more misfortune as another rider made contact with Baz at the first corner on the second lap, resulting in a crash for the Avintia Racing man. Determined to finish the race, Baz picked up his Ducati and remounted despite significant damage to the bike. A gruelling race battling both the damaged bike and a slightly injured shoulder saw him take a well-earned point, his first of the year.

Even with just a single point, Baz isn’t last in the championship standings as he sits ahead of Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda). With the return to Europe, Baz hopes his luck will return to allow him to show his full potential on the bike. As his teammate Hector Barbera has proved, the GP14.2 is clearly capable of finishing inside the top ten.

Loris Baz: “I did a good start and I was in the right group, but on the second lap, when I was passing another rider, someone came from the inside and hit me. I tried to lift the bike, but I crashed. I don’t know who did it, but this is racing. It was difficult to finish the race without shifter, one centimetre footpeg, and damaged swingarm, but I did it for my team and my mechanics after such a good weekend. It was hard and I had some pain in my shoulder, but even though, my pace was not so bad.”
