Lorenzo: “Little by little we solved these problems”

Lorenzo: “Little by little we solved these problems”

A near perfect start to the Gran Premio Red Bull de España for Jorge Lorenzo who topped both FP1 and FP2 and kept his rivals at bay.

With his future now decided and out in the open, Jorge Lorenzo has been able to focus exclusively on pushing as hard as he can for the 2016 MotoGP™ World Championship. His efforts to hunt down Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) got off to a great start in Jerez as the Majorcan topped both Free Practice sessions. Between FP1 and FP2 Lorenzo was able to find 0.7s to conclude the day with a 1’39.555, 0.345s ahead of Marquez in second. The pair were the only riders able to drop into the 1’39s on Friday and are quickly emerging as favourites for victory on home soil. A return to Europe saw Lorenzo spend the day adjusting himself, the bike and electronics to the tighter European style of track.

The YZR-M1 may not be the fastest bike down the straight, but it has always handled well and thus is suited to Jerez. Small details remain the focus for Saturday as Lorenzo has already found a good base setting for his machine.  It was also a day of testing for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider who debuted a new helmet design for Shark. The new helmet boasted a more prominent rear, helping to promote better air flow while tucked in down the straight. Yamaha’s rear fuel tank also made an appearance again on Lorenzo’s M1. If his pace carries on like this, Marquez will have a lot of work to do in order to protect his championship lead.

Jorge Lorenzo: “My first feelings are positive. We started the first day with some problems and a different feel than what we had in the last two races but little by little we solved these problems and adjusted the electronics, setting and everything. Now we have a good set-up and can keep working to improve the small details. First place this morning and first place this afternoon, I think, is a good beginning of the weekend!”
