Moto2™ and ExternPro rack up 1 million kilometres

Moto2™ engine supplier ExternPro celebrates an important milestone in its partnership with the World Championship.

Having joined as official engine supplier in 2013, the Motorland Aragon-based ExternPro reached the 1 million kilometre mark during the last race at the Circuit of the Americas, Austin, with exactly 204 engines having been supplied to teams up to that point.

ExternPro’s Technical Director Trevor Morris commented: “We’re pleased to have reached this milestone in the Moto2™ class, as it shows that our commitment to reliability and equality is paying off. Having a sole engine supplier means that teams want to only focus on the bike set-up and the rider, without having to worry about the engine. All engines are prepared under the same conditions, measured on the same dyno, and then handed out to the teams in a “lottery” type system, which fulfils our criteria of treating every rider the same. Continuing along this path, with the same methods and controls, we’re confident we can keep Moto2™ the exciting and reliable class that it is.”

The Moto2™ package is based on the Honda CBR600 engine, with a new or rebuilt engine handed to each team after every three races. Before the Jerez weekend, teams were given their second engine of the season, which they will now use until the end of the Mugello race. Each engine has a total of 3 rebuilds, after which a new one is brought into rotation. ExternPro’s current contract with World Championship runs until the end of 2018.
