Zarco: “Every year we go faster”

The 2016 French GP sees Johann Zarco race in front of his home fans for the first time as Champion, beginning the weekend on top.

Reigning Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco made an almost perfect start to his home Grand Prix, the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France. The Frenchman ended Free Practice 1 in sixth but only 0.320s off first. In Free Practice 2 he was able to improve his time by almost a second and set a 1’37.370 to lead the session and the day as a whole. In both practice sessions the Ajo Motorsport rider was able to complete long runs of 14 laps to give him and the team an idea about what to do for Sunday’s race. All in all it was a very productive and encouraging day for Zarco, especially as several of his title rivals struggled.

Johann Zarco: “I'm pretty happy after today and this is good for my confidence. I felt in good shape for this weekend and I was able to confirm that this was the case today. We must stay focused and keep pushing to prepare for the qualifying session tomorrow, because we want pole position and to be the best in the race -when the points are awarded. Today's result is good because it means we have a good bike. Also, I have a good feeling, but we must continue working to prepare for the race. Every year we go faster and this is normal, because the tyres are better and the bike has improved. The new Kalex has the potential to go very fast and no rider is switching off, so you have to push your hardest."
