Roberts stays at the top as rain continues to fall in Jerez

The American remains quickest with times unable to improve in wet conditions

The Moto2™ field faced tricky conditions on Saturday morning, with wet weather making it impossible for anyone to improve at the Grand Premio Estrella Galicia 0,0 de España. Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) remained at the top of the timesheets thanks to a strong 1:40.664 on Friday afternoon. The American was 0.234s ahead of Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp), who suffered a crash at turn one on Saturday morning. Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) rounds out the top three after the Championship leader showed strong pace on Friday.

It was a tough session of attrition with Garcia finishing Practice 2 as the quickest rider but would suffer a crash at turn three in the final minute of the session - adding to the drama. The #3 was ahead of Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Tony Arbolino, who was 0.139s ahead of Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Aspar Team), with times remaining over 10 seconds slower to Friday.

The times from Friday afternoon allowed Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing Team) to claim a fourth place in the combined standings – adding to American Racing Team’s delight. The #24 was ahead of Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI), who rounds out the top five and will be aiming for a first podium this season. Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) continues to impress in 2024, with the Spaniard heading into qualifying in sixth ahead of Zonta Van Den (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP), who also suffered a crash late on in the session.

Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) had a handful of moments on Saturday, but the #21’s was eighth in the combined standings ahead of Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™). Izan Guevara (CFMOTO Aspar Team) rounds out the top 10 ahead of teammate Dixon, with Somkiat Chantra (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) showing great pace in mixed conditions and in the dry, finishing 12th in the combined standings ahead of Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) and Barry Baltus (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP), who rounds out the top 14 riders who will head directly to Q2.

Many big names are now forced to fight in Q1 in unknown conditions later on, including Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who was 19th in the combined standings but showed better pace in mixed conditions. Arbolino will also have to fight in Q1 later on, hoping to carry momentum into qualifying. However, one rider who will not take part in qualifying will be Aron Canet (Fantic Racing), who was declared unfit after a crash on Friday.

Moto2™ will leave pitlane at 13:45 local time (UTC +1) for an unpredictable session, so make sure you keep up to date on motogp.com!
