Petrucci: “I do not want to stop here”

Petrucci: “I do not want to stop here”

An incredible return for Danilo Petrucci who takes seventh place in Le Mans, his first race of the year.

After watching the opening rounds of the 2016 season from his couch, Danilo Petrucci was finally able to get back out on track and ride once again. As the weekend got underway, Petrucci was not sure if his hand would hold up to the demands of riding a Grand Prix motorcycle around the Le Mans circuit, the Italian gritting his teeth to complete every practice session. It was by no means an easy race, a case of the flu making the 28-laps extra gruelling. Petrucci worked hard to defend himself from the likes of Eugene Laverty (Aspar Team MotoGP) and Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing), fending off both riders’ attacks. It was almost as though Petrucci hadn’t missed a race as he expertly battled with Barbera. During the race there were a number of crashes and Petrucci found himself in seventh by the end of the race, taking nine well earned points.

His Octo Pramac Yakhnich team were overjoyed for ‘Petrux’ and are looking forward to Mugello, an important round for any Ducati team. Petrucci is aware the crashes of others played into his seventh place finish and is hoping to close the distance to the leaders in Mugello.

Danilo Petrucci: “I'm very happy. Now I can say I feel really better. It has been a difficult period and I thank all those who helped me. I did not know if I would be able to finish the free practice and now I can enjoy this beautiful seventh place. I'm happy but I do not want to stop here. At Mugello I hope to be able to lap a little closer to the leading group. Thanks to a little luck I managed to gain the seventh place but I can do better. Meanwhile, however, is now time to celebrate, especially with my team who as usual did a great job.
