Marquez: “I expected to be a little further off"

Marquez: “I expected to be a little further off'

Top Honda honours for Marc Marquez who ends Friday fifth fastest overall, more to come from the Spaniard throughout the weekend.

A wet Free Practice 1 saw Marc Marquez attempt to make the most of tricky conditions with some practice starts from pit lane. He did not complete a full lap in the session, a number of other riders using the first session for the same thing. Free Practice 2 was held in much better conditions and Marquez made the most of it, working hard to finish as the fastest Honda rider. His 1’48.290 had him end Friday as the fifth fastest rider, almost half a second faster than his Repsol Honda Team teammate Dani Pedrosa. Before the weekend had even started Marquez knew it would be tough as Yamaha riders always go exceedingly well at the Italian track. Despite his initial worries, Marquez was only 0.133s slower than Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who was second overall. The forecast remains bright for the rest of the weekend.

Marc Marquez: “I'm happy with how practice went today overall, despite having finished fifth because my feeling was pretty good. I think there is room for improvement, but I guess that’s the same for all the riders, because I expected to be a little further off and the difference turned out not to have been much. We will continue with the same dynamic, because we know that this is a difficult track and that the conditions will improve. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, as today was a special day because of the wet track in FP1. However, the times in the second session were good. Let's see if we can gradually become more consistent, because the feeling at the moment is pretty good.”
