Pirro: “Today is a good day”

Pirro: “Today is a good day”

Michele Pirro was delighted to finish in third after Friday’s practice at the Italian GP, but admits there is still work to do.

Ducati Team’s Michele Pirro, riding as a wildcard at the Italian manufacturer's home grand prix, had an impressive opening day to finish in third on the overall timesheets. The Italian took advantage of the amount of laps he has put in around the Autodromo del Mugello as Ducati’s official test rider.

Heading out in tricky conditions in FP1, Pirro managed a 1’56.411 to end the session in fifth. In the afternoon session the sun had come out and the track had fully dried, Pirro taking advantage of conditions to improve his time by over six seconds to set a 1’48.245 and finish the day in third overall, making it two factory Ducatis in the top three after his teammate, Andrea Iannone, had topped the timesheets.

Pirro will be back out on track for FP3 at 09:55 Local Time on Saturday morning, with Qualifying starting at 14:10 Local Time  in the afternoon.

Michele Pirro: “Today is a good day for me and my team because we finish in third position. Tomorrow we will still have to work a lot as I think the other riders will improve, but the base of the bike is very good. I like riding at this track and so tomorrow I will try and improve my feeling and work with the team to try and be consistent for the race. I also tested the new intermediate tyre to understand the feeling, its okay and not so big of a problem. In the morning the conditions were difficult, some parts were wet and some dry, so we just tried to get an understanding of the tyre.”
