Redding: “I felt quite comfortable”

Scott Redding ended Friday’s practice at the Italian GP in eighth after finding a good setup with all three types of tyres.

Octo Pramac Yakhnich’s Redding was one of the riders who made the most of the wet FP1 session on Friday morning at Mugello, as he put in 12 laps on a mixture of the wet and intermediate Michelin tyres. The British rider immediately feeling comfortable in the tricky conditions and ending FP1 in second with a 1’54.973.

For the afternoon’s FP2 session conditions had improved and Redding was able to utilise slicks to increase his pace by over 6.5 seconds to set a 1’48.406 and top the overall timesheets with just seven minutes remaining. Unfortunately he could not improve his time in the final moments and had to settle for eighth overall as others surpassed him.

Redding will be back on track at 09:55 Local Time on Saturday morning for FP3, with Qualifying starting at 14:10 Local Time in Mugello.

Scott Redding: “I went out when it was wet in the dangerous areas, but the track was quite dry, so I thought why not try the intermediates. Giacomo [Guidotti - Crew Chief] was bit like, “We don’t really need to,” but I thought we should just try it, just so I know. We haven’t used them before and if it happens in a race and we have to use them, I would have the experience. They felt quite good, but when I was going over a wet patch it still spun quite aggressively, but it didn’t snap back so hard. So that kind of helped and when up to temperature the front worked quite well, but there was just a bit more movement obviously with the clutch and the tyres. I was quite happy with the work we did in the morning. We did a bit in the rain, then we tried the intermediate and in the afternoon I felt quite comfortable like I did in the Le Mans race, and I felt on the same level today.”
