Zarco: “It is not easy to go fast at Mugello”

Zarco: “It is not easy to go fast at Mugello”

Friday’s two Free Practices were held in very different conditions, but Johann Zarco proved to be the fastest in both.

After a terrible time in Le Mans, Johann Zarco was out to make amends in Italy and get his championship defense back on course. Friday couldn’t have started much better for the Ajo Motorsport rider who topped Free Practice 1 with a 1’53.592. Conditions weren’t ideal for the first session, but the Moto2™ World Champion riders were able to use slicks unlike the other classes. The sun beat down until the second practice session of the day later in the afternoon, times dropping as conditions improved. Zarco again ended as the quickest rider in the intermediate class as he set a 1’52.944, improving his reference lap by over half a second. The time came on his final lap, the Frenchman having to push till the very end as times are incredibly close in Moto2™, one second splitting the top 20.

Johann Zarco: “It was a good first day, because I led the two Free Practice sessions and that is important for gaining confidence. In the morning we rode carefully at first, but we steadily improved and I stayed calm; I identified what our mistakes were. In the afternoon there were better track conditions, although it is not easy to go fast at Mugello. We are doing our best and things have gone well at the moment, but we want to improve our times by working with the team. I am very pleased with how everything went today; we must be prepared for qualifying and the race, in which if the weather is good everyone will be able to push a lot."
