In form Nakagami shows intent in Warm Up

On the front row for the first time since 2014, Takaaki Nakagami is out for the podium and leads Warm Up from Folger and Cortese.

There’s something extra about Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) in Mugello this weekend, the Japanese rider inside the top three on the grid for the first time in 41 races. He’s been close to the podium a number of times already in 2016 but bad luck has ruled him out of the top three before.

Qualifying down in 17th, the Italian GP hasn’t been a fun weekend for Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP) but his second place in Warm Up offers some hope. It’s an uphill battle for the German, but anything can happen in Moto2™.

His teammate Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) is also having a strong weekend after missing France due to a knee injury. Cortese completed the top three in Warm Up, 0.400s back on Nakagami.

Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) also showed incredibly well as he ended inside the top five for the second time of the weekend. Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) concluded the session in fifth.

Pole man Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) ended the session down in eighth, but has already shown his pace in the hotter conditions.

The intermediate class race will begin at 12:20 Local Time, given how close the times are it is sure to be a thrilling race.
