Migno: “In the last corner I took a risk”

Andrea Migno grabs his debut podium in the Moto3™ World Championship after an ambitious overtake.

For the second time in his career Andrea Migno (SKY Racing Team VR46) started on the front row for a Moto3™ World Championship race. What followed in Assen was a classically tight lightweight class race with the lead changing a dozen times a lap. The Italian had a quiet start to the race and left his charge till the end, adding even more excitement to the last lap. In true Assen style it was all about the Geert Timmer chicane, Migno taking to the curbs through the Ramshoek to try and get an ideal run to the line.

His plan worked and he crossed the finish 0.018s behind Francesco Bagnaia (Aspar Mahindra Team Moto3) but race direction ruled Migno’s move illegal. As such the Italian was demoted to third, still able to take to the podium for the first time. The 800th lightweight class race was celebrated with an all Italian podium, Migno excited to be on it regardless of his position.

Andrea Migno: “At 200 meters to go to the flag I was at 120% because I passed on the curbs and in the last corner I took a risk by braking very hard. It was very close in the last corner but I’m so happy. I was fast all weekend and strong, I’m happy because this podium is a thank you to my team. I’ve worked so hard and never gave up so it’s great. I’ve wanted this podium and I will keep trying in all the race.”
