Di Giannantonio: “It was really fun during the first laps”

Italian fought at the front and for the win before being pipped to the line

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) had a plan to win the Aragon GP, but after race leader Joan Mir (Leopard Racing) moved to break the slipstream, the Majorcan retained his advantage – with ‘Diggia’ then crossing the line in P2 as the top three staged a stunning photo-finish. The Italian was happy with the result but not the last lap, and is now refocusing on attacking the flyaways.

Di Giannantonio has also since been confirmed at Gresini for 2018, remaining with current teammate Jorge Martin in the Del Conca-backed squad.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, P2: “I think I had a great race, it was really fun during the first laps. I came back really strong, doing some fast laps and when I was in front my goal was to try and win the race. In the end my plan was to be second on the back straight and overtake the rider in front at the last corner, but Mir did something dangerous I think, because when you are really fast on the straight it is dangerous to do something like this. I’m happy because I am second on the podium again, I’m happy for my team because of the job we have done and this gives a lot of motivation for the next races.”
