Oliveira leads the pack in Moto2™ FP1

The Portuguese rider tops the opening session, closely hunted by Marquez

In the opening Moto2™ session of the weekend, Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was in the groove right from the off, with his best lap time a 2:12.104 – 0.041 seconds clear of second place Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), who threatened to take top spot on his final run.

Iker Lecuona (Swiss Innovative Investors) was third on the time sheets, 0.268 back of Oliveira and 0.138 seconds quicker than teammate Sam Lowes, who was fourth on a track he’s previously won at in this category. Qatar race winner Franceso Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46) was a late faller in the session, crashing on the curb as he entered the fast turn three. Thankfully he was ok, and the Italian ended the session in fifth.

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) had a morning to forget, his Kalex machine twice suffering a mechanical problem, meaning the Championship leader could only manage four laps. Home hero Joe Roberts was 24th, and will be looking to move forward later in the day.
