Iannone, Pirro, Dovizioso top opening session

It was an Italian trio leading the way in MotoGP™ FP1 at Mugello

Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was the quickest man in this morning’s Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley FP1 session, the Italian shooting to the top of the time sheets on his final run to go 0.550 clear. Ducati Team test rider Michele Pirro led for most of the session, he finished P2, with his teammate for this weekend Andrea Dovizioso making it a 1-2-3 for the Italians at their home Grand Prix.

Maverick Viñales’ (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) session got off to a bad start after an early crash at Turn 1, however the Spaniard was able to get back out and record the fourth fastest time of the session. Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) had a strong end to the session to round out the top five, with World Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) sixth fastest.

Thomas Luthi (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was another faller mid-way through the session, the Swiss rider tucked the front at Turn 10, but re-mounted – rider ok.

Will the Italians continue to stamp their authority at the Italian GP this afternoon? Find out when the premier class go back out on track at 14:05 local time.
