Bagnaia quickest out the blocks in Catalunya

The intermediate class Championship leader was quickest in FP1 ahead of Schroetter and Mir

Francesco Bagnaia (SKY Racing Team VR46) was the man to beat in Moto2™ FP1 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, topping the session with a 1:44.225 despite an early crash at Turn 10. Behind the Championship leader was Marcel Schroetter (Dynavolt Intact GP), just over a tenth off the Italian, with Joan Mir (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) rounding out the top three.

It was a fantastic session for replacement rider Augusto Fernandez (Pons HP40), last weekend’s FIM CEV Repsol Moto2™ European Championship Race 2 winner at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was an impressive fourth quickest, with last year’s race winner Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) rounding out the top five – 0.138 back from Bagnaia’s time.

Jorge Navarro (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), Romano Fenati (Marinelli Snipers Team) and Dominique Aegerter (Kiefer Racing) crashed during the session – riders ok.

A second covers the top 18 in Moto2™ after the first Free Practice session of the weekend, with FP2 starting at 15:05 local time (GMT +2).
