Morbidelli: “Work to do” but “we’re improving”

Italian completed Day 3 in P8 as he and Petronas Yamaha SRT continue to progress with the 2019 YZR-M1

A 1:59.141 put Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) in P8 on the timesheets as the Sepang Test came to a close.

The Italian completed a further 66 laps on the final day as he and the Petronas Yamaha SRT garage continue to improve the feeling with the 2019 YZR-M1. But there is still plenty of work to do for last season’s Rookie of the Year.

“Yes, I’m happy about today because we did exactly what we wanted to do,” began Morbidelli. “We improved our pace and we also improved our pure speed, so this is good. Still, we have to work a lot because we have seen Ducati, at a certain point of the day, were unreachable. So, we still have to work a lot but we are improving.”

Thursday and Friday saw plenty of riders doing race simulation runs, but was this something Morbidelli had done across the three days?

“No I didn’t, I had to try many things. I didn’t have the chance to make a long run, so I will try in Qatar.”

And you can keep up to date with how Morbidelli performs at the Qatar Test on motogp.com, with the vital three-days kicking off on the 23rd February.
