58 not out: Marquez draws level with Doohan

Seven-time World Champion equals the five-time World Champion’s pole record after an unbelievable qualifying display in Brno

After yet another mystical display from Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) in qualifying at the Monster Energy Grand Prix České republiky, the seven-time World Champion draws level with five-time World Champion Mick Doohan on 58 premier class pole positions.

Doohan’s total is the premier class record and on just his 118th start in MotoGP™, Marquez has managed to tie with the Australian. In addition, the latter holds a remarkable premier class pole percentage tally of 49.1%, while his 86 Grand Prix poles percentage sits at 43.8% - two incredible numbers from a rider who continues to defy the odds. And that wasn't the first time Marquez has treated us on a Saturday afternoon...

So can Marquez convert pole into victory on Sunday at the Czech GP? Sun is predicted for tomorrow so you can expect the Repsol Honda man to have a fight on his hands, and you can watch the race live at 14:00 local time (GMT+2).
