Misano: medium abrasive, technical and precise

What tyres will the MotoGP™ riders have at their disposal for Round 13?

A date with the Adriatic Riviera coast awaits Michelin and the MotoGP™ riders as they get ready to tackle the 4.226km Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the Gran Premio Octo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.

Misano is a technical and precise layout that combines slow turns, high-speed corners and fast straights. Six left and 10 right-handers, along with a medium abrasive surface, mean Michelin have to bring a specific set of tyres to the San Marino GP. The soft, medium and hard compounds that have been chosen are a symmetric front and a soft symmetric rear, with the rear medium and hard compounds all having an asymmetric finish with the harder rubber on the right side to manage the extra turns that head in that direction.

Misano’s coastal position and proximity to mountainous terrain can also lead to heavy downpours, which we have seen in recent years. Michelin’s Power Rain tyres will be a soft and medium symmetric front and an extra-soft symmetric and soft asymmetric rear.

In addition, Michelin also have the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup to supply this weekend. The ‘Energica Ego Corsa’ machines will be equipped with the Michelin Slick MotoE™ tyres which have been specially developed for the electric motorcycles. The single compound selection will be available as a medium front, with a soft rear, both of which will be symmetric and if wet weather arrives, then the 18-strong field will have symmetric soft front and extra-soft rear Michelin Power Rain tyres available in their allocation.

Piero Taramasso – Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager: “Misano was a very good event for us last season as we saw many fast laps in the sessions and records broken. The tyres performed very well all weekend and the race saw all six compounds used, with fast and consistent circulations throughout the 27-laps. This is something we want to replicate this year and have a range of tyres to do that, obviously the asphalt is a year older, so we will have to see how it performs. Misano will also see us having another first, as MotoE will have two races during the weekend. This will be very interesting to see how this works out and if the strategy from Saturday changes how the riders cope and plan for Sunday’s race.”
