Those achievements were enough for Marquez to receive a nomination for Sportsman of the Year at the annual awards event.
The Spaniard joins the likes of Formula1’s Lewis Hamilton, tennis player Rafael Nadal, footballer Lionel Messi and golf’s Tiger Woods in the Sportsman of the Year category.
This is Marquez’s second nomination for the award, after he lost out to tennis star Novak Djokovic in 2015. He will be seeking to become the first athlete from a motorsport discipline to win the award since Formula1’s Sebastian Vettel did so in 2014.
