On song Guevara soars to lap record Friday top spot in Indonesia

The recent back-to-back winner turns up the wick again to lay down the gauntlet to title rival Gonzalez heading into the weekend

Winner in Austria. Winner in Japan. And now the all-time lap record holder in Moto2 after the opening day of action at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. Those accolades go to Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) as the rider second in the title chase lays down the gauntlet in Practice with a 1:32.337, 0.231s quicker than second-fastest Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team). Third place in a red-flagged Practice session went to Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team), despite the #96 encountering a technical issue in the closing stages of Friday’s running.

Moto2 Practice was red-flagged on two separate occasions. First, Manuel Gonzalez’s (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) visor flew off on his out-lap at the start of the session; then again when connectivity issues hit parts of the circuit with just over 12 minutes left on the clock. It was Gonzalez, the World Championship leader, who finished the session in P4, 0.259s adrift of his title rival.

Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the top five, with two more 2026 race winners joining the Australian in the top seven on Friday – sixth place Alonso Lopez (ITALJET Gresini Moto2), and seventh fastest Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing Team). Lopez was another rider to experience a technical issue at the end of the session.

Despite a Turn 11 crash, Ayumu Sasaki (Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team) earned P8 to sail into Q2, with Daniel Muñoz (Italtrans Racing Team) and David Alonso (CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team) P9 and P10 respectively.
