Marc Marquez to be replaced by Bradl in Styria

Repsol Honda Team have confirmed the German will continue to stand in for the injured eight-time World Champion

After stepping in for Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) at the Czech and Austrian Grands Prix, HRC test rider Stefan Bradl will continue to partner Alex Marquez at this weekend’s BMW M Grand Prix of Styria.

The German finished 17th on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday afternoon, but took the chequered flag just over a second away from fellow Honda rider Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) in 15th and a tenth off Esponsorama Racing’s Tito Rabat in P16. The former Moto2™ World Champion will continue his work at the Red Bull Ring when the riders hit the track on Friday morning at 09:55 (GMT+2) for FP1.

“It was a tough weekend for us, we didn’t have the speed we needed, we were hurt by the sessions that were wet or damp because we still needed to test a lot of parts,” said Bradl, speaking to his Repsol Honda Team. “This limited our time to prepare for the race, so our situation was not as competitive as it could have been. Either way, we learned a lot from the weekend, and we’ll see what happens next weekend when I again get to ride for the Repsol Honda Team.

“Now it’s time to sit down and analyse the data. I hope that Morbidelli and those who had crashes today are OK. I arrived at the crash soon after and there were many parts flying everywhere, it was a scary moment. I didn’t see the crash itself, but seeing bikes destroyed like that is always a worry.”
