After clinching only the second-ever FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup in a dramatic season finale at the French Grand Prix earlier in the month, Pons Racing and Jordi Torres have announced they will return to the class in 2021 after agreeing to a one-year deal.
Spanish Elvis stunned fans around the world in his debut MotoE™ season by beating 2019 Champion Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE) and former Moto2™ star Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) in the nail-biting season finale in Le Mans. Earlier in the year, the 33-year-old took his maiden podium at the Andalucia Grand Prix before then collecting back-to-back podiums at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
A debut victory in the decisive first race of the French Grand Prix would help the likeable Spaniard to be crowned the 2020 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup winner and he will be back in 2021 as determined as ever to defend that title.
Jordi Torres: "I am very happy to renew with Sito's team. Without a doubt, this is our best option. This season we have worked very well, with a great technical team, feeling like a family and, in the end, that is what is worth more. After evaluating several options, loyalty with Sito's team and the technical staff is what I want, and I am really delighted. I am comfortable, everything has gone well for us and now is the time to continue learning and enjoying together.
"This year we have managed everything very well and I want to continue learning together with PONS Racing. We have won, we have reached the podium, achieved pole positions and now we will have from the first race 'the favourite' tag. I don't see the time to start next season, since I will feel the pressure and it will be intense and I know that I will be surrounded by the best to manage it."
Sito Pons, Team Principal: "Being able to announce Jordi's renewal for one more season makes us all very happy. In his season as a 'rookie' in MotoE, he has done it in the best possible way, winning the title, and that is not easy as it is a completely different bike that requires time to adapt and having achieved success is thanks to the talent it has.
"Together we will face a season in which we already know each other and we will seek to repeat the successes achieved. I am sure that we will enjoy a good season again and, once again, thanks to the sponsors who accompany us and who make it possible."
