Picking a MotoGP™ Fantasy team for this weekend's 888 Portuguese Grand Prix is an extremely difficult task, but that didn't stop us asking six MotoGP™ stars to select two gold riders, two silver riders and a constructor all within a 15m budget at Thursday's Press Conference.
World Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar), the returning Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), 2021 Grands Prix winners Maverick Viñales and Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), Championship leader Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) and Portugal's home hero Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) made their selections, so check them out below!
There were some interesting choices from the 2020 World Champion. He started by sticking himself in as a gold rider and decided to go with Portimao podium finisher last year, Jack Miller (Ducati Team), alongside him. Unsurprisingly, Suzuki was his choice of constructor. Finally, he went with last year's race winner, Miguel Oliveira, and the improving Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro as his silver riders.
The returning eight-time World Champion has put his money on Viñales and Oliveira to be strong this weekend by selecting the pair as his gold riders. World Champion Mir and new teammate Pol Espargaro make up his silver riders line-up, before choosing Honda as his constructor.
Up next was the Qatar Grand Prix winner: Maverick Viñales. Top Gun chose himself and Jack Miller as his gold riders, with World Championship leader, and current top points scorer in MotoGP™ Fantasy, Johann Zarco in his silver riders alongside Petronas Yamaha SRT's Franco Morbidelli. Budget is always an issue with MotoGP™ Fantasy, meaning he opted for KTM over Yamaha as his constructor.
Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller, first and second in Portimao last year, were popular choices but only Fabio Quartararo put them as his gold rider line-up. Just like Viñales, he went for KTM as his constructor before choosing an all-French silver rider pairing of Johann Zarco and himself.
The Frenchman decided to go with Jack Miller and Franco Morbidelli as his gold riders, plus Ducati as his constructor. Just like compatriot Fabio Quartararo, Zarco will be hoping to be singing La Marseillaise on the Portimao podium by going with Quartararo and himself as silver riders.
Portugal's home hero is backing himself to be standing on the top step of the podium on Sunday again by choosing himself as a gold rider alongside Morbidelli. Interestingly, the factory KTM man was the only rider to stick the returning Marc Marquez in his team. The eight-time World Champion went in as a silver rider with Johann Zarco, before finally going with KTM as his constructor.
