Stoner: "Remy has really come into his own"

Two-time premier class title winner and Australian MotoGP™ Legend Casey Stoner has had his say on Gardner’s 2022 promotion

It’s not just Wayner Gardner, Mick Doohan, Chris Vermeulen and current MotoGP™ star Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) that are thrilled to see Moto2™ World Championship leader Remy Gardner (Red Bull KTM Ajo) move into MotoGP™ next season. Two-time premier class World Champion and MotoGP™ Legend Casey Stoner is also delighted to see his compatriot get a chance on the big stage in 2022.

Stoner is widely regarded as one of the most talented riders to ever grace the sport. Ducati’s only World Champion to date, the Australian’s 2007 season will go down as one of the greatest season-long performances. In 2011, Stoner secured a second MotoGP™ title on board a Repsol Honda, before retiring at the end of the 2012 campaign.

Stoner is, of course, Australia’s last Grand Prix World title winner. And the now 35-year-old has shared his thoughts on seeing Gardner sign a contract with Tech3 KTM Factory Racing, echoing the thoughts of his fellow Australian premier class winners.

“It’s going to be great having another Australian in the top category, it’s been a while since we had two Australians competing in MotoGP,” said Stoner. “Remy’s really come into his own, especially this year but we’ve seen him mature over the last few years which has been really good to see. And with a great opportunity like he’s got, it’ll be exciting to see what he has in store for us next year.”

Now a two-time Moto2™ winner in 2021 after his classy Catalan GP victory, there should be no doubts about Gardner deserving a chance to show what he’s capable of in MotoGP™. If his former and current Grand Prix compatriots are right, then Gardner is going to be an immediate gem with KTM.
