Just like last time out at the Sachsenring, MotoGP™ Fantasy players are ready to build their TT Circuit Assen team for the first time. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team, $2.9m) kept up his King of the Ring streak in Germany with an emotional 11th straight win at the venue, ending his 581-day victory drought. But who should we be targeting for the Motul TT Assen? Let's have a little gander.
What was the ideal team for the Sachsenring?
Unsurprisingly, both Marc Marquez and Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, $2.6m) were the top scorers in first and second place, with Brad Binder’s (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, $2.9m) rise from P13 to P4 on Sunday handing him and KTM a lovely haul of points.

Motul300V Boost rider: Marc Marquez

All aboard the Marc Marquez train?
Seeing the number 93 return to the top step of the rostrum, after months of pain, was a sight to behold. 2562 players transferred Marc Marquez in for the Sachsenring round, and it handsomely paid off – the eight-time World Champion notched up the most points of anyone (39).
So, if you were one of those who took the calculated gamble to bring in the now 11-time Sachsenring King, then well done. Those who didn’t could now be thinking of a way to get Marc Marquez into their teams, but proceed with caution: Assen is a whole different kettle of fish. Marquez isn’t yet up to full fitness and Assen’s 12-right corners – compared to the three in Germany – will cause Marquez more issues with the right humerus and shoulder than the Sachsenring did. Not to mention the competition are much more of a match for Marquez in the Netherlands than they are in Germany.
As always, see how Marc Marquez is getting on during Free Practice 1,2,3 and 4 before making any decisions on bringing him into your team. He could prove to be the number one pick, but there could be some other riders to focus your attention on.
Two standout riders who should be in your teams
There’s a reason why Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP, $4.1m) is the most picked rider and top points scorer in the game in 2021. The World Championship leader bagged his fifth podium of the season at the Sachsenring and finished on the rostrum at Assen in his rookie MotoGP™ season. The Frenchman is a keeper, and if you’ve not got Quartararo yet, then he should be one of the main priorities. It's as simple as that.
The other rider who is now quickly becoming one of the most selected is Oliveira. P2 at Mugello and victory in Barcelona saw Oliveira get drafted into 5,853 teams ahead of the Sachsenring, and with the Portuguese rider and KTM on song, the MotoGP™’s in-form man is another near the top of the shopping list at Assen.
Who else is worth a shout at Assen?
If 2019’s Dutch TT is anything to go by, then Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP, $2.6m) should be a contender. The Spaniard dominated proceedings the last time we visited the Netherlands, but Sachsenring – discounting Quartararo’s podium – was a painful weekend for Yamaha. Fortunes may change for Viñales and Yamaha at a favourable stomping ground, but see how Friday and Saturday morning plays out first.
In theory, Joan Mir ($3.8m) and Team Suzuki Ecstar teammate Alex Rins ($2.5m) should go well at the Cathedral of Speed. 2019 saw Rins crash out of the lead in the opening exchanges, with Mir eventually finishing 8th in his rookie premier class encounter at Assen. Qualifying remains an issue, but Mir is renowned for being able to claw his way back through the pack on Sunday’s. That brings Fantasy points and could well happen again this weekend.
The aforementioned Binder, for those fancying a little bit of a differential pick, could be an almighty shout at Assen. It’s the South African’s first visit to the circuit on a MotoGP™ bike but so was the case at the Sachsenring, and he finished P4 from P13 on the grid. 34 points last time out keeps him ahead of Oliveira in the overall Fantasy points table, while Binder is also outside the top 10 most owned riders. One to watch for sure.
Good luck to all the MotoGP™ Fantasy players this weekend!
