Aleix Espargaro’s love of cycling is well known within MotoGP™ circles, with the Aprilia rider often taking to Instagram to show off some of the trails he has completed across Europe, and even harbours ambitions of going pro once his motorcycle racing days come to an end. While recognized as one of the best and most popular forms of off-season training, the Spaniard has gone even one further at the weekend by competing in the 2022 Challenge de la Plana.
Mixing it with a number of professional cyclists, Espargaro took part in the third stage of the event, which was made up of 71 kilometres of mountainous terrain, including a 1,341-meter overall altitude change. Despite the stiff competition, Espargaro was in among the victory fight until the latter stages, eventually claiming a very respectable P4.
“Road debut done! A lot of tension but a lot of fun! I had good legs and very, very close to the winner!” Espargaro posted on his Instagram account.
After his latest excursion, we’re looking forward to seeing the Aprilia rider back on track and competing for podiums in the coming season.
