MotoGP™ Court of Appeal: how it works

Read our quick explainer of the process as the FIM Appeal Stewards refer the Marc Marquez appeal to the MotoGP™ Court of Appeal

The FIM MotoGP™ Stewards are responsible for penalties in MotoGP™. But what happens if a rider, team or factory appeals?

That’s when the matter is referred to the FIM Appeal Stewards. The FIM Appeal Stewards may confirm or overturn a decision of the FIM MotoGP Stewards panel, or impose a different penalty according to the regulations.

However, the FIM Appeal Stewards can also decide to refer the case to the MotoGP™ Court of Appeal “if it appears impossible to deal with the case for any valid reason”.

The FIM Legal Director appoints the judge who will constitute the MotoGP™ Court of Appeal.

Marc Marquez' (Repsol Honda Team) appeal is now on its way to the MotoGP™ Court of Appeal... stay tuned for more updates on when and where we can expect an outcome.
