Ahead of the annual MotoGP™ summer break, Dorna Sports Chief Sporting Officer Carlos Ezpeleta has been chatting with Catalunya Radio about a number of interesting topics. Most notably, potential plans for Honda and Yamaha to receive Concessions.
“We are working on being able to help, not only Honda, but also Yamaha, so that they can be competitive again in a faster way,” said Ezpeleta.
“Honda and Yamaha were very considerate with the concession rules in the past, and that was vital for Ducati to be competitive and also for Suzuki to be competitive so quickly, and for KTM and Aprilia to officially enter the World Championship and be competitive as well. Dorna's official position is that the concessions system should be updated,” continued Ezpeleta.
Ezpeleta also explains that having more than 22 bikes – the current allocation – on the grid next year “isn’t planned”, and what that means for Marc Marquez’s Repsol Honda Team future. In addition, Ezpeleta touches on the potential of a Friday Free Practice MotoGP™ session being introduced into the weekend schedule.
