The Spaniard put in consistent fast laps at the end of Friday morning's Practice 1 to put himself on top with a 2:05.399. Despite walking wounded, the title contender finished 0.016s ahead of his nearest competitor Somkiat Chantra (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) with Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 MasterCamp) rounding out the top 3.
Ai Ogura (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) showed his form from Assen is here to stay as he put in a strong run of laps at the end of P1 to finish the session 0.247s away from the top spot in P4. Aron Canet (Pons Wegwow Los40) showed very strong pace as well and found himself consistently at the top of the timing screens midway through the session. The Spaniard rounded out the top 5 with Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in P6 ahead of the two home heroes Jake Dixon (Tensite GASGAS Aspar Team) and Sam Lowes (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) who finished in 7th and 8th respectively. Championship leader Tony Arbolino (Elf MarcVDS Racing Team) finished the session in P11 0.945s off the pace.
