Hot on the heels of a thrilling British Grand Prix Sunday at Silverstone, the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes were both back out on track throughout the day on Monday for a crucial day of testing. After the prolonged summer break, the extra day’s work offered teams and riders from both classes the chance to find some further improvements as they face down the second half of the campaign.
In the intermediate class, Tony Arbolino's (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) late effort during FP3 saw him claim top spot for the day with a 2:04.894. The Italian was out to find improvements after an underwhelming British GP saw him cede the Championship advantage to rival Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who wasn't present at the Test. Arbolino will be better pleased with his Monday runs, and will be hopeful of brining that form with him into Round 11 at the Red Bull Ring.
Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Team) ended the day second and just 0.017s off top spot, and it should prove an encouraging boost for the Spaniard and will give him something more to build on after his impressive P5 on Sunday. Rounding out the top three was Aron Canet, completing a positive few days for the Pons Wegow Los40 rider after his British GP podium.
Looking at the lightweight class, Diogo Moreira ended the day top thanks to 2:11.875. The MT Helmets – MSI rider had 0.315s to spare over Moto3™ Championship leader Dani Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3), while Ivan Ortola (Angeluss MTA Team) was third overall.
Following the close of testing, next up for all classes is the CryptoDATA Grand Prix of Austria, which kicks off on August 18th. Make sure you tune in then!
