Alonso demolishes the lap record on Saturday morning

Moto3™ kicked off Saturday’s track action at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, with David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) flying to the top of the timesheets on Saturday morning after an incredible 1:46.111 in the closing minutes of the session. Nobody could respond to the #80’s relentless pace, with Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) pushing to the limit to finish 0.670s adrift in second position ahead of qualifying. Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) was also incredibly fast on Saturday morning, showing some sensational pace and spending the majority of Practice 2 at the top of the session times before finding further time to settle for third place.

The fast times in Practice 2 did not come until the final five minutes with Rueda finding incredible time in the final sector before Alonso instantly responded to go over half a second clear of his rivals. Everybody pushed in the final laps with David Almansa (Kopron Snipers Team) having a crash with Xabi Zurutuza (Red Bull KTM Ajo) - bringing a premature end to their session.

Further down the order, Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP’s Collin Veijer ended the session in fourth, improving on a final flying lap. The #95 was ahead of Riccardo Rossi (CIP Green Power), who rounded out the top five at the end of Practice 2 completed 14 laps. Stefano Nepa (LEVELUP – MTA) was sixth after a strong start to his day to place ahead of Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3). Championship leader, Holgado was unable to improve on his time from Friday, but that time still placed him in a respectable seventh. Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) rounded out the top eight position in yet another close midfield in Moto3™.

Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) was ninth after making it back on track after suffering from technical issues on Friday. The Spaniard was ahead of BOE Motorsports’ Joel Kelso who took the final position inside the top 10 ahead of Angel Piqueras (Leopard Racing) and Joel Esteban in 11^th and 12^th.  Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI) was 13^th ahead of Almansa, who took the final spot inside the top 14 with direct entry to Q2 after his crash. It also leaves a competitive field to battle for the top four spots in Q1 including Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports), and the experienced Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) with everything still to play for.
