Navarro stuns with a record-breaking lap ahead of Roberts

Moto2™ returned to action on Friday at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, with a tense end to proceedings as Jorge Navarro (KLINT Forward Factory Team) ended Friday as the fastest Moto2™ rider ever to lap the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – destroying the lap record. Navarro was ahead of Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) was second after setting 19 laps across the session, a mere 0.208s behind the #9. In third position after a brilliant lap was Daniel Muñoz (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team), who continued to look strong in both sessions on Friday.

However, it was not smooth sailing for everyone, with a crash early on from Xavi Cardelus (Fantic Racing) at turn five, costing the #20 valuable time. Wildcard, Mattia Pasini (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro) had a crash of his own late on before fellow Boscoscuro rider, Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) had a huge save at turn 10.

After finishing fastest in Free Practice, Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) was fourth at the end of the day, setting a 1:43.076. Aldeguer rounded out the top five in Moto2™ but was unable to improve on his time late in the session due to his save. Aiming to take his second Moto2™ victory will be Aron Canet (Fantic Racing), who was sixth – ending the day ahead of Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Filip Salac. The #12 was ahead of Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) who showed consistent pace throughout the session.

Alonso Lopez was down in ninth after a late lap secured the #21 a provisional spot in Q2, ahead of Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team). Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) and Ai Ogura (MT Helmet – MSI) ended the day in 11^th and 12^th, with Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team’s Izan Guevara securing the final spot inside the top 14.
