Lopez leads Aldeguer on Saturday morning

The Moto2™ field returned to action on Saturday morning for a pulsating battle for the final spots in Q2 at the Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo. Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) is the rider who now heads into qualifying fastest after an incredible final flying lap and a tow to the line. Lopez was ahead of teammate Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp), who was second after a great lap allowed the #54 to jump from 17^th to second in the closing stages of the session. Behind the SpeedUp riders was Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI), who briefly occupied the top spot before dropping behind the two SpeedUp riders to finish in third.

Riders put in solid laps throughout the entire session before new rubber was put in and the riders used the last 10 minutes as a time attack session. Ogura soon hit the top with red sectors everywhere before Aldeguer stole the top spot with less than four minutes on the clock and then his teammate Lopez went quicker on his final flying lap.

Sergio Garcia completed a great morning for the MT Helmets – MSI team in fourth, with the Championship leader aiming to extend his gap in Italy. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five was Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who ended Practice 2 a mere 0.345s adrift from the top spot. Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) took sixth position ahead of American Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team), who was seventh after completing 13 laps. Behind Roberts was Mattia Pasini (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro), who continues to impress after putting in an incredible result to jump to fifth position before finishing in eighth place.

Further back, Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Deniz Öncü took the final spots inside the top 10. Izan 11^th place went the way of CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team’s Izan Guevara, who ended Practice 2 ahead of Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) in 12^th position, after a strong flying lap. Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) and Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) were the final riders to secure their spot inside Q2, with some big names such as Marco Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing Team) and Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) forced to go through Q1 later on.
