Canet puts on early pressure at the British GP

The #44 was fastest on Friday morning and heads into Practice 1 ahead of Chantra and Gonzalez

The Moto2™ field took to track for Free Practice at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix, with a sensational pace to begin the second half of the season. Ending Friday morning quickest was Aron Canet (Fantic Racing), who set a 2:04.021 as the lap times dropped in a sunny start to the weekend at Silverstone. The #44 placed 0.263s clear of IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia’s Somkiat Chantra, who set 14 laps and was pushing hard at the start of Friday. Chantra looked comfortable and would finish ahead of Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™), who took third position in what is building to be an unpredictable weekend.

Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was fourth after the Italian set the most laps of any rider during the session. The #13 was 0.492s adrift from Canet but would finish ahead of Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), who rounded out the top five positions. Further down the order, Fermin Aldeguer (GT Trevisan SpeedUp) was 10th and will be aiming to repeat his success at the 2023 British GP. Meanwhile, Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) will be hoping for a good result at his home Grand Prix this weekend, ending Free Practice in 12th.

Practice 1 is next for Moto2™ at 14:05 local time (UTC +1), so make sure you tune in and don’t miss anything on motogp.com!
