It's ten down and ten to go in the MotoGP™ World Championship, with 20 races set to decide who adds their name to the Tower of Champions in early November. As Gresini Racing's Marc Marquez starts to drfit out of contention, we now have Ducati Lenovo Team's Enea Bastianini taking his place and joining the hunt for gold.
The Beast's sensational Silverstone double has seen him close the gap at the top down to just 49 points, although the Italian remained convinced all weekend that he is not yet ready to declare himself as a contender for this year's crown.
Just one round on from Bagnaia stealing the lead away from Martin following the Spaniard's nightmare late crash in Germany, the World Champion threw away some valuable points in Saturday's Sprint to allow the Prima Pramac Racing man to then leapfrog him on Sunday.
Marquez is now 62 points adrift in fourth, with his charge for Championship success starting to lose momentum in recent weeks. The eight-time World Champion will need a big few weeks to drag himself back into the hunt for the title.
The fight for a top five Championship finish is hotting up too, with Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing), Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Ducati) now all separated by just 26 points after a rollercoaster British Grand Prix for the quartet.
Can Bastianini continue his upturn in form next time out in Austria, or will we see the top two respond?
