Acosta leaps to the top of the standings in FP2

The Spaniard set the pace on Saturday morning as tension builds ahead of qualifying

MotoGP™ began an enthralling Saturday at the Gran Premio Pramac dell’Emilia-Romagna, with a vital FP2 session, where Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) came out on top. The #31 put together a late 1:31.451 on his final lap to beat Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team) by 0.004s. It was an impressive morning for the Frenchman, who was consistently running inside the top 10 during FP2, before putting together an impressive final run. Quartararo was ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), with the Italian having a busy session in the pit box, trying a different set-up in the early stages of FP2 before claiming P3.

Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) spent the early stages of the session at the top of the timesheets, finishing fourth after suffering a crash at Turn 14 in the final five minutes. The #93 was ahead of Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), who rounded out the top five ahead of Maverick Viñales, who claimed the honours as the top Aprilia Racing rider. The #12 was 0.274s away from Acosta's benchmark, placing ahead of Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) in seventh. Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) took eighth in a solid morning for ‘The Beast’ as he looks towards qualifying.

Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing) and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Brad Binder rounded out the top 10, with both riders forced to battle for the top two spots in Q1. Further back, Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team) returned to track after having suffered from a fever on Friday.
