Ogura snaps up Friday honours from Canet

The #79 was quickest on Friday, finishing ahead of Canet and Arbolino at Mandalika

It was a thrilling Friday at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit for the Moto2™ field, with Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI) starting the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia in style – topping the standings on Day 1. The Championship leader set a magnificent 1:33.690, setting a new Moto2™ lap record. Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) grabbed a magnificent second at the end of proceedings, ending the day a mere 0.057s adrift from top honours. Meanwhile, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) rounded out the top three as the Italian set sights on redemption after missing out on victory last time out.

Moto2™ set a strong pace in Free Practice, with Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) starting the weekend strong – bagging an early P1 – after an incredible final flying lap of his session. Aldeguer’s momentum would continue into Practice 1, landing an early advantage on Friday afternoon. All of the action was left until the final five minutes, with Arbolino stealing P1 before Canet and Ogura destroyed the lap record.

Aldeguer would remain consistent, ending the day in fourth after setting over 15 laps throughout Practice 1. The #54 was ahead of Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), with the #35 improving on his final flying lap to round out a talented top five. CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team’s Jake Dixon took sixth, unable to dip into the 1:33 bracket as the #96 set an identical time to Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), who had an impressive day. The Australian placed P11 in Free Practice before grabbing seventh in Practice 1 to finish ahead of Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) in eighth.

The final spots inside the top 10 went the way of Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and OnlyFans American Racing Team’s Joe Roberts as times remained close at the top. Meanwhile, Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) took 11th, while Izan Guevara (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) was 12th. Further back, Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) suffered a crash during Practice 1, ending the day in 13th as Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) claimed the final provisional spot in Q2.
