Moto2™ star Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing) and eight-time Supermoto World Champion Thomas Chareyre sprung a surprise at Valentino Rossi’s annual 100km dei Campioni, taking victory ahead of the host and factory Honda rider Luca Marini. The Brazilian-French duo seized the lead after an intense start and held off the Italian siblings, and last year’s victors, by eight seconds to claim the top spot at the iconic Tavullia Motor Ranch.
The five-stint race began with a Le Mans-style sprint to the bikes, where Marini initially led before handing off to Rossi. However, a slight slip by Rossi and Moreira’s relentless pace allowed the newcomers to pull ahead and secure the win.
Rounding out the podium were Elia Bartolini and Lorenzo Baldassarri, who finished 45 seconds behind the leaders. The battle for the final podium place saw them edge out Andrea Migno and Franco Morbidelli, who had started in third.
MotoGP™ stars Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) finished sixth, while elsewhere, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) teamed up with Isle of Man TT legend Michael Dunlop, but despite their enormous talent, the pairing finished last, capping off a thrilling day of motorsport under the clouds at Rossi’s legendary dirt track.
