“Sorry!” - Marquez and Bagnaia recall Portimao clash

The infamous 2024 incident still lingers, with the Italian pointing out just how costly those 11 lost points proved to be as the duo chase glory together in factory red

It’s the lineup everyone in the MotoGP™ world is talking about: Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez have joined forces to form Ducati’s Dream Team for 2025. With 11 World Championships between them, both riders are determined to add another title to their resumes by the end of the season.

Fans expect sparks to fly, both as teammates and rivals, as they push the GP25 to its limits and chase another MotoGP world title. Both riders were in attendance at the Ducati Lenovo Team Presentation at Madonna di Campiglio, followed by a lively face-to-face chat show hosted by the Italian brand on the mountain.

When asked if sharing a garage would make them ride differently to avoid collisions - like their infamous 2024 Portuguese GP clash - both were unequivocal: absolutely not. Marquez elaborated: “Nobody wants to crash. Nobody wants to create a collision. But sometimes when we are there riding at the limit, you believe the other (will do one thing) and the other believes you (will do another). Sometimes he thinks one way, and you think in another.”

“We both scored zero points that day.”

Bagnaia was quick to quip about how costly that incident proved, stating how it cost him 11 points as would have finished P5, with the Italian losing his Championship crown by just 10 points by season’s end to Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing).

Marquez had a riposte of his own too, saying “sorry” before the two cut the tension and laughed off the exchange.

There was plenty more up for discussion during the show, including how they can work as a team, preparations for the new season and how Marquez admitted encountering the wrath of a Ducati team member for putting parmesan on a seafood pasta!
