Martin undergoes successful surgery in Spain

Aprilia confirm successful surgery on the World Champion's right hand following his Sepang crash

After his crash on Day 1, reigning World Champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) was ruled out of the remainder of the Sepang Test and returned home to Spain for surgery on a fracture in his right hand. The operation took place on Friday and Aprilia Racing confirmed its success, as well as the positive extra news that the #1 does not require any intervention for the fractures sustained in his foot.

Martin suffered a closed fracture of the fifth metacarpal head of the right hand and a closed fracture of the third, fourth and fifth metatarsals of the left foot after a highside at Turn 2 on Wednesday.

After spending a night at the Aurelius Hospital in Nilai in Malaysia, he returned to Europe to undergo the surgery on Friday morning. The medical team at the Quirón Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona, led by Dr Xavier Mir, confirmed the positive outcome of the operation. Recovery times will be assessed in the coming days.
