Martin undergoes successful surgery

A fresh injury sees the World Champion ruled out of Round 1, but his road to recovery has already begun

World Champion Jorge Martin has undergone successful surgery in Barcelona following a training accident that has ruled him out of the 2025 Thai GP. The Aprilia rider sustained fractures to his left hand while ramping up preparations for the season opener, after already being sidelined from most of pre-season testing due to another injury.

The Spaniard received surgery on his left hand – not the one he broke during testing in Malaysia – and his team confirmed that the procedure was a success.

"Jorge Martin has undergone surgery at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona by Professor Mir and his team. The procedure was completed successfully, with the implantation of two screws at the level of the radius fracture and one at the level of the left scaphoid for stabilization and to facilitate the healing process. Surgery was done via a percutaneous approach with arthroscopic assistance. In the coming days, the prognosis will be evaluated on the basis of Jorge’s clinical condition," Aprilia said in a statement to the media.

Martin will be replaced by Lorenzo Savadori for Round 1, and we wish the World Champion a speedy recovery.
