Silverstone doesn’t do repeats. Over the last 10 British GPs, 10 different riders have taken victory - each race a twist in the tale. From Lorenzo to Bastianini, the British GP has become MotoGP’s most unpredictable stop.
As the 2025 edition approaches, here’s a look back at ten unforgettable races - and the ten riders who ruled them.
2013: Jorge Lorenzo
Lorenzo kept his Championship hopes alive with a gritty win over Marc Marquez in a nail-biting final-lap duel. The reigning Champion was at his clinical best, denying the rookie sensation and closing the points gap to 30 heading into the final stretch of the season.
2014: Marc Marquez
Marquez bounced back from defeat at Brno to take a hard-fought win over Lorenzo, his 11th victory of the season. The result was another key step in his dominant march to a second consecutive MotoGP title.
2015: Valentino Rossi
In the slippery wet, Rossi rolled back the years to take his first-ever Silverstone victory. The win also handed him the Championship lead at a critical point in the season, while Lorenzo struggled down in fourth.
2016: Maverick Viñales
Vinales stunned the field with a flawless ride, securing his and Suzuki’s first MotoGP victory since 2007. The dominant performance confirmed his rising star status and marked a pivotal moment before his move to Yamaha the following year.
2017: Andrea Dovizioso
Dovizioso timed his attack to perfection, taking advantage of late-race drama and Marquez’ DNF to secure his fourth win of the season. The result catapulted him to the top of the Championship standings in what was then a career-best campaign.
2019: Alex Rins
Rins edged out Marquez in a thrilling last-lap battle, winning by just 0.013 seconds in one of the closest finishes in MotoGP history. It was his second victory of the season and demonstrated his ability to box clever.
2021: Fabio Quartararo
Quartararo was untouchable at Silverstone, cruising to a dominant win that extended his Championship lead. With his main rivals off the pace, the Frenchman took a major step towards clinching his first premier class title. This race also saw Aprilia claim their first-ever MotoGP podium with Aleix Espargaro’s P3.
2022: Francesco Bagnaia
Bagnaia produced a calculated ride to secure his first British Grand Prix win, kicking off a critical run of form. It was the second in a string of four consecutive victories that reignited his Championship campaign and ultimately led to the crown.
2023: Aleix Espargaro
Espargaro delivered a career-defining win with a late-race charge to overtake Bagnaia in the closing laps. It was Aprilia’s first dry-weather MotoGP victory and a major highlight in a season where the veteran was a regular front-runner.
2024: Enea Bastianini
After a challenging start to the year, Bastianini bounced back in style with a perfect weekend at Silverstone - winning both the Tissot Sprint and the Grand Prix. It was his first victory of the season and reignited his form heading into the second half of the year.
2025: Who will join the list?
With ten different winners in the last ten visits to Silverstone, could we see an 11th name added? Could Alex Marquez or Johann Zarco – our two most recent race winners - be next to etch their names into the British GP record books? Or will a new name come to the fore?
