On a scorching afternoon at the Tissot Grand Prix of the Netherlands, David Alonso (CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar Team) set the pace in Moto2 thanks to a 1:36.154, a time that was 0.009s quicker than second place Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP). The World Championship leader was, in turn, 0.055s ahead of third place Tony Arbolino (REDS Fantic Racing), as 0.256s covers the top 10 in Assen.
In a crash-strewn, red-flagged session that saw the unfortunate Ayumu Sasaki (Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team) crash three times, it was third in the championship Celestino Vietti (HDR SpeedRS Team) who had the headline crash. The Italian, who walked away from the incident, highsided out of Turn 5 early doors and wasn’t able to get back out for a top 14 attack. That means Q1 beckons for Vietti on Saturday afternoon.
Nasty highside for Vietti and great work by Agius to avoid that 👀#DutchGP 🇳🇱 pic.twitter.com/Y9GtBtnFY5

There were no such worries for the likes of Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) and Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Azul Marino Aspar Team), the Australian and Spaniard were P4 and P5, with Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) only 0.165s away from top spot in P6.
Taiyo Furusato (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) had a turn at leading a session for the first time in Moto2, the Japanese rookie eventually ended Practice in a very promising P7, one place ahead of Czech GP winner Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – Xeramic – MSI) whose Geert Timmer Chicane crash in Practice didn’t cost him a Q2 spot.
After a technical issue early in the session, Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing Team) was able to jump into the top 14 in P9, and so too did one of the home heroes, Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo), and second in the championship Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) – the Dutch and Spanish stars go into Saturday as the 11th and 12th quickest riders so far.
