MotoGP has descended on central London ahead of the British GP and as part of the occasion, British racing legend Barry Sheene was officially inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame.

Sheene won back-to-back MotoGP Championships in 1976 and 1977, writing his name intp the history books as not only a British sporting great but a global one. Transcending the sport, his success on track was partnered by success off track as a huge sporting personality around the world.

Sheene was on the podium in his first 125cc race in 1971 and the same was true for his MotoGP debut in 1974. His first MotoGP win came at the Dutch TT in 1975, which was the first of 19 wins and 40 podiums in the premier class over nine full seasons.

Sheene thrilled his army of fans with unforgettable races against Kenny Roberts in the late 1970s and early 80s. He was in the running for a third MotoGP crown in 1982 too, with five podiums from seven rounds, until a practice crash on home turf at Silverstone that sidelined him. Still, he continued to race for two further seasons after that crash, taking his last podium with a brilliant third place ride in the wet at Kyalami in 1984 – a performance he rated as one of his best.

The 1976 and 1977 World Champion was already named a MotoGP Legend and now adds the accolade of MotoGP Hall of Famer. The new concept launched in 2025 and adds an extra honour for those riders who have MotoGP World Championships and/or 25 or more MotoGP wins.

Sheene sadly passed away in 2003 so his son, Freddie, attended the event in London to receive the Hall of Fame medal from MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta – celebrating a Legend, Hall of Famer and true icon of MotoGP.
