Alex Marquez leads Bezzecchi in British GP FP1

It's Ducati fronting Aprilia and KTM as MotoGP revs back into life at Silverstone

Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) fronts the MotoGP field heading into the all-important Practice session this afternoon at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain after setting a 1:58.692 in FP1 at Silverstone. The returning Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) was an impressive P2 at the beginning of the weekend, 0.173s away from the younger Marquez sibling, with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) completing the top three despite a crash.

With 20 minutes to go, Acosta suffered that fast crash at Stowe corner. The #37 was thankfully straight up on his feet without any trouble, but it was a tip-off that disrupted the KTM star's opening session of the weekend before he was back out on track to set a time good enough for the top three. A good response from Acosta.

Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team), fresh from penning a new two-year deal with the team, ended FP1 in P4, while Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) rounded out a top five split by 0.364s.

Then came the top three in the World Championship. Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) began his British GP with a P6 finish, with Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and title race frontrunner Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) seventh and eighth respectively.

And that’s FP1 done from Silverstone. Next up: Practice at 4 pm local time (UTC +1).
