British racing royalty Geoff Duke was honoured on the Tissot Sprint grid at Silverstone, with the four-time MotoGP champion’s son receiving his Hall of Fame medal from MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Duke won the premier class title in 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1955 – putting in an incredible run in the early years of the MotoGP World Championship. He also won the 350cc championship in 1951 and 1952, further cementing his legend, and was a pioneer off track – one of the first to wear a one-piece leather suit on the bike.
He was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1953 for services to motorcycle racing, even before much of his greatest successes. He took podiums in every year of his career and took his final Grand Prix win in his penultimate year of competition, 1958, with victory in Sweden.
Duke was already confirmed to receive the accolade of MotoGP Hall of Famer, and now his medal has been officially presented. The new concept launched in 2025 and adds an extra honour for those riders who have MotoGP World Championships and/or 25 or more MotoGP wins. It coexists with the honour of MotoGP Legend, which has different criteria.
Duke sadly passed away in 2015 so his son, Peter, was present on the Sprint grid in Silverstone to officially receive the Hall of Fame medal from MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta – celebrating a Legend, Hall of Famer and true icon of MotoGP.
