The Trackhouse rider has passed Thursday’s medical check and will return to action on Friday before being assessed again after FP1

Ai Ogura has been cleared to take part in Free Practice 1 at the Austrian GP, with the Superfile Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider set to undergo a further medical review following Friday morning’s session.

Ogura had targeted Spielberg for his return after missing the Aragon and San Marino Grands Prix through injury, and the Japanese rider has now been given the initial green light to get back aboard his RS-GP26.

After missing Aragon and Misano with a hand injury, the Japanese rider is cleared to ride in FP1 at the Red Bull Ring before undergoing a further medical review

“I’m good, I just had a medical check with the doctor,” said Ogura. “For now they’ve given me the go for tomorrow morning at least.

“My hand condition is quite okay, good enough to ride a bike, so I expect nothing special for this weekend, but it’s good to be back.”

The #79 suffered the injury in a motocross training crash, describing the incident as an unlucky one.

“It was just a normal crash,” he explained. “I touched the ground in the wrong way. It was a really unlucky situation.”

Ogura also revealed Austria had been his preferred target for a comeback, with Misano coming too soon.

“I wanted to return for Austria. Misano was a bit too early and the track layout is not the best one for coming back from injury.”

Ogura will now take part in FP1 before being assessed again to determine whether he can continue with the remainder of the Austrian GP weekend.
